D: *Laughs* Hi
A: Hey guys! *cough* Welcome back to another video *laughs*
A: I am excited to be filming this video.
Am I excited to be filming this video?
D: You gotta be a little bit
A: September 1st
will be our 3 year anniversary of being vegan
which is crazy.
D: That’s a long time
A: And A&W #nonspon
A&W has just come out with a vegan burger
I don’t know if it’s everywhere but it is here in Canada
and we wanna try it.
The added layer of this video – the part that I think makes it more interesting –
I have not eaten fast food in over 10 years.
D: Did I know you the last time you ate fast food?
A: I think we met
A: like right after I quit
D: Yeah A: or right before I quit fast food.
D: Cause I remember in high school we would all go to McDonald’s
and get like as many cheap burgers as we could
and you wouldn’t have any.
A: Nope and I wouldn’t do it
because I decided to stop eating fast food for like 2 weeks before my family took a trip to Mexico
and then I got back from Mexico and it had been 3 weeks since I’d had fast food
and I was like, “Well, I’m just gonna keep not eating that” and I haven’t since!
Today I’m gonna break it because we’ve been vegan for 3 years
and it’s a celebration!
D: I’ve already celebrated a couple times A: *laughs*
D: each week…
A: We went to A&W and we ordered some food.
D: You gotta go this way and then come around like that A: ohh…
D: Been awhile since you went through a drive through, huh? A: move it, move it
D: Do you know you have to roll your window down?
A: Wait! What are we getting?! Uh-oh I’m panicking
D: 4 Beyond Meat Burgers and 2 fries.
A: And do I have to say they’re vegan?
Oh my God, can you order?
D: No, just without sauce and cheese.
Intercom: Hi there, may I take your order?
A: Hi, could I get 4 Beyond Meat Burgers but
D: No sauce, no cheese
A: But no sauce, no cheese, like just vegan?
Intercom: Okay so 4 plain? A: Yes, please – plain. Thank you!
D: You did alright. A: *panting* It all happened so fast!
D: If I had to critique you I would say that your uh octaves were a little high
D: at the end of every word.
D: Vegan? A: *laughs* D: No sauce?
D: Why did we get 4? A: I don’t know! D: Well, you said get a couple and then I just doubled that
D: Bring them. A: Oh, hey, nice shirt!
That’s cool, did you see what that said?
D: That’s their promotional shirt for the burger
A: I don’t know, I’ve never been here before!
D: Everyone here just doesn’t care at all that they’re selling a vegan burger and you’re just like, “Oh my God,
you guys are part of the movement!” A: *laughs*
A: That’s exactly it, I felt like she was – I felt like she was in it with me
D: Yeah, she doesn’t care. A: So, 2009… So 10 years since I’ve had
D: 10 years. A: Since I’ve had fast food. A decade.
D: Are you ready?
A: I don’t know, I’m a little mad *laughs*
D: That you – that we’re doing this?
A: That I’m breaking it, yeah.
D: That I convinced you to
A: Yeah. Thank you!
A: Perfect! D: This is the entrance but we can leave through here… It’s the fast food life – we’re living it.
*beeps* D: Woah A: What?
D: They didn’t , like, they went PLAIN plain
A: *gasps* It’s just…
D: Literally bun and patty.
A: It’s just a bun on a patty!
D: This is what fast food is now, 10 years later
A: Should we put – yeah? They just got rid of all the toppings?
A: We’ll BRB – we’re gonna… spice it up.
D: It’s fast food where you gotta make it yourself and it’s slow
A: Here we go! Let’s…
D: Get it. A: GET IT IN!
D: The patty’s pretty unreal. A: Mm! It tastes like fast food – that’s what it tastes like
A: I thought while we eat, while we do this mukbang, we could answer some questions about veganism.
The question that I get a lot was; when you started, what was the hardest part?
D: I think for me it was like if, when we went to certain restaurants, like if you ask for something to be made without dairy
sometimes people can kind of roll their eyes at you. To me, that was the only thing that I actually had a hard time with.
A: Like, the… *distant beeping* Both: Laundry!
A: Yeah, other people’s reactions to it.
I would say cheese *laughs* and then I would say that was the other thing was, yeah,
other people reacting to us saying that we were
First of all, we would say we’re doing it for a 30 day challenge, which we were.
We’d order something vegan and the people would give you this look and we’d be like,
“We’re just doing a challenge, it’s just for 30 days” like hahaha this is terrible, it’s just for 30 days
and then when we decided to keep going, I remember we’d tell people, “Yeah, we’re vegan but like
it’s not like for the animals, like it’s just for health.”
D: Did we? A: Yeah! I remember that first – I remember with our friends, I remember saying like,
“We watched this documentary, we’re just doing it for health reasons, like it’s not, don’t worry – it’s not about the animals.” D: Mhmm
A: For me, I was so scared of like making somebody else feel bad D: Mhmm
A: Or like making somebody else uncomfortable – making somebody else think about the animals that they’re eating.
I was like, “I don’t wanna…” D: It’s all good, you’re fine. A: It’s fine, it’s fine, it’s fine
Because other people get really defensive. Unprompted.
Which now I think, 3 years later, we’ve learned to take on the chin. D: It is what it is. A: Yeah.
And then the best part – what was the best part of starting? Or what’s the best part of being vegan? Do you have one?
D: Mm, I mean it’s just easier on the conscience. For me, I think it like cleared up a lot of skin problems that I had
My forehead used to be a braille novel. A: *laughs* When we met,
you had pretty bad acne. D: Yeah. A: And I used to have stomach problems like my whole life.
3 weeks into going vegan, they were gone.
When I think of the best part of being vegan, I think about the phrase,
“It’s good for my body, it’s good for the planet, it’s good for the animals.” It’s just good all round.
The big triple threat. D: Trifecta.
A: Yeah *laughs*
A: Biggest tip for someone who wants to go vegan?
D: Uhh, learn to cook.
A:*laughs* D: No honestly, find like a bunch of staples that you like – it becomes automatic so soon.
A: Mhmm D: I mean, for me at this point, it’s bizarre to think about if I weren’t vegan.
A: Yeah! It’s just changing your habits. D: Yeah.
A: Once your habits change and you get over your old habits,
you form new habits and then eating vegan just becomes a habit.
My biggest tip would be to eat all the same foods that you already like, just eat the vegan version.
Don’t try to overhaul your whole entire life and start like a brand new set of foods that you’re gonna be eating
because you’re gonna fail. Eat all your favourite foods, just make the vegan version.
You love having eggs in the morning? Have tofu. There are ways to make tofu taste and look and feel like eggs.
You love having, I don’t know, lasagne? Make vegan lasagne. Alfredo pasta? Vegan Alfredo.
Pizza, burgers? That’s like some of our favourites. D: Mhmm A: Yeah!
A: There’s vegan versions of everything.
A: Basically. D: This is true. A: What are some other questions?
D: *mockingly* “Where’d you get your protein, bro?” A: *sighs*
A: I don’t even wanna touch – not even gonna answer… D: Don’t even answer it, that’s – don’t even answer it.
A: Do you think I should maybe, just in case someone doesn’t know? D: *mumbling* No, you don’t, don’t even answer it.
A: *whispers* Vegetables.
A: I get a lot of people commenting and saying, “I live with my parents and I wanna go vegan and they don’t – how do I do that?” D: Oh yeah, mhmm.
A: And what I wanna say to that is; don’t be too hard on yourself because when you are living with your family
or you are under like somebody else’s roof, don’t be too hard on yourself if you can’t make that transition fully
but a way to kind of start that transition or at least eat vegan sometimes – offer to cook dinner.
When you go out to eat, you have control over what you order and offering to cook meals
and showing and exposing your family to vegan foods that they might have no idea about can help open them up too.
D: What she said. A: Why did we get so many burgers?
D: I mean they’re delicious but I’m kinda…
A: I’m already full. D: Do you like the french fries?
A: Oh, I haven’t even tried one.
D: They would’ve been really good hot. A: It’s a potato – you can’t go wrong with potatoes.
A: Potatoes, salt and grease? D: Alayna’s favourite 3 foods. A: Mhmm! *laughs* That’s my favourite 3 food groups.
A: What’s the biggest change you’ve noticed from the beginning of being vegan to 3 years later?
D: Probably just how easy it is, just like – A: Yeah. D: You just get better and better and better at it, so.
A: I’ve even started cooking. Took me 3 years. *laughs* D: I know! Might only be ramen but… A: Hey!
D: 3 years ago you couldn’t turn on the kettle so…
A: I would say the biggest change for me has been going vegan in other areas of my life.
Cause at first, it was just focusing on the food, which is – which is totally fine.
And then I started switching over all my makeup and buying cruelty-free stuff
and now I’m at a place where I won’t buy any clothing or any products or anything if they have leather or suede.
A: Continuing to learn and continuing to become more conscientious in other areas of my life. D: Mhmm.
A: To be honest, there’s just – there’s so much to care about in so many different areas
and don’t beat yourself up if you’re not perfect in all of them. D: Mhmm. A: You gotta start somewhere and that counts too.
D: *coughs* A: *laughs* D: I think it’s too much. A: You got emotional?
A: Do you want my 2nd burger? D: Not at all. I didn’t want my 2nd burger. My God, why do I feel like poisoned?
A: I’m definitely gonna go back to not eating fast food after this. D: *coughs* Here’s to another 10 years. A: *laughs*
D: I think I have a fry in my lungs. *clears throat* A: Ew, eww. Eww, Ew I heard you swallow it!
A: That’s about it. These are delicious. Good job to A&W for coming out with a vegan burger. The world is changing, you guys.
A: That’s it for this video! I hope that you guys enjoyed it. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments down below
and on Instagram – @MISSFENDERR with 2 R’s – on my Instagram story, I will answer D: *coughs*
A: On my Instagram story, I will answer as many of the questions as I can!
A: All in all, I do wanna say that after being vegan for 3 years – even after being vegan for 2 years, for one year – it’s the best thing
*crashing noises off-screen* A: Kittens!
A: It’s the best thing that I’ve ever done and I feel good about my choices every single day.
That’s it for this video, I love you guys so much and I will see you in the next one. Bye!
A: Good girl! That’s a good girl.
A: Bear is like so over kissing the camera. That’s why, since we’ve gotten the kittens, they’ve always been the ones kissing the camera at the end of the videos.
A: Bear like, he’s just so over it. D: Bear’s like, “If they’re gonna do it, I’m done – they can do it.”
A: Yeah, he doesn’t want any part of it anymore. D: He’s payed his – he’s served his time. A: Yeah, exactly.
