Singaporeans Try: American Fast Food (In-N-Out, Five Guys, Jack In The Box)

I can’t even get it up (the straw)!
That’s how thick it is!
Hello everyone!
Welcome to the first ever international Singaporeans Try…
in San Francisco!
– I’m Rainier…
– And I’m Chow.
And together we have…
A huge, huge thank you to United Airlines…
for putting us on one of the quickest routes from Singapore to the US.
It’s a direct flight from Singapore to San Francisco…
And it’s honestly the most comfortable 14-hour flight I’ve ever been on.
How many movies did you watch?
I didn’t watch any movies. I slept the whole way.
I think that the best part is that it saved us so much time…
and the moment we touched down,
we could get our day started.
Without further ado, since we are in the land of fast food,
for this episode of Singaporeans Try, we are going to try…
all the American fast food!
– Let’s go on a road trip! Let’s go!
– Road trip!
We’re at Five Guys and we are going
to get ourselves a bunch of burgers.
An ultimate cheeseburger.
– Hi guys!
– Hi!
– Do you eat fast food?
– Yes!
A lot.
– What do you think?
– What do you think?
From the looks of this body, do you think he eats fast food?
I like Carl’s Jr…
Can’t forget Macca’s (McDonald’s).
McDonald’s… KFC…
I recently fell in love with McDonald’s all over again…
Because of their nuggets.
I’ve tried In-N-Out…
I’ve tried Five Guys…
Shake Shack…
I’ve tried the ones in Australia, like Red Rooster… Hungry Jack’s…
Hungry Jack’s is like Burger King.
I tried In-N-Out burger when I came to the US about 5 years ago.
I don’t eat fast food because it’s unhealthy.
If I taste some fast food that suits my palate,
I don’t eat fast food because it’s unhealthy.
If I taste some fast food that suits my palate,
I may enjoy it.
So maybe today will change my mind.
Fast food… Bring it on!
The whole thing looks really juicy,
and you can see that the buns have been fried.
– The smell…
– Oh!
The patty looks amazing. It looks juicy.
It’s so thick, and the cheese is like…
Everything in the burger is just spilling out…
it’s how my burger usually looks like when I order a Big Mac
The beef is pink in the middle.
That’s so gourmet.
I think maybe it could have been a
bit better for me if it had more cheese.
I really like the fact that… the meat has this sweetness to it.
– I love it.
– I love it too.
Oh, my God, is that a hot dog?
What the…
Whoa… You can definitely smell bacon.
It’s so nice.
There’s some crunch and the meat is actually quite substantial.
This dish brings back childhood memories for me because I loved hot dogs as a kid.
The sweetness is from the sausage and the saltiness is from the bacon.
And there are different textures from the vegetables and stuff…
and then there’s cheese…
The sausage has a more substantial, meatier bite.
I don’t really know if I’d go to Five Guys to order a hot dog.
Maybe if I went to any other
fast food chain that also sold hot dogs I’d get that.
But if I’m going to Five Guys,
I’d want some good hearty beef.
– Oh…
– What have we here?
Oh… It looks so glorious.
It smells like ice cream… Vanilla ice cream.
– I’m so excited.
– Yeah!
– I’m going to cry.
– It’s so thick.
I cannot even get it up (the straw). That’s how thick it is!
This is like an Oreo milkshake…
But at the end, you’re chewing on bacon instead of Oreo.
– Oh, my God.
– It’s your favorite.
It’s her freakin’ favorite.
There are actual bits of… is it the nut?
– Is it?
– It tastes very sinful.
The smell of the onions is insane.
The smell is really insane.
It’s like when you’re cutting up raw onions.
The bun looks like…
a Filet-O-Fish bun.
The texture of the meat is the… very processed kind.
Actually this kind of gives me a homey feel.
Because it tastes a bit like a Ramly burger.
Definitely a lot more flavour, though.
But I think that the cheese is lacking.
When I tasted the previous one, I was like…
This one tastes like…
Where’s the cheese…
I taste nothing but the pickle.
It’s overpowering everything.
I’m not sure. The last time I had it,
I remembered it to be very juicy and tender.
– Ok.
– But today’s was a little bit thinner.
But I must say that the bread itself is quite crispy on the outer layer.
– When they grilled it, it’s very toasty.
– Yeah, it’s very well-grilled.
I think it was well done.
Ok, so this is the Neapolitan milkshake.
It has chocolate, strawberry and vanilla.
It’s really, really sweet.
Very sweet.
I don’t taste flavors… I taste a lot of sugar.
It’s like if you added sugar and milk together and blended them up.
Oh, this is really good.
It tastes like Cravio ice cream…
you know the plastic cup that’s really cheap?
It makes me feel like I’m lying on the beach.
With sunglasses… and a hat.
That bun is really yellow.
It’s the first thing that came to my mind.
The patty is pretty thick…
This is so hefty and substantial that you
could split it in two and eat it like that…
and you’d still be happy.
The bun is… I don’t know. Too perfect.
It’s like a very… artificial kind of bread.
I think it looks very promising but I don’t know what it’s going to taste like.
Ooh, I like how the meat is very tender.
I think that this is just a very, very regular, mediocre burger.
I feel like the tomato sauce is a bit much.
And it’s not evenly distributed.
Sorry, Jack. Not very impressed with this cheeseburger.
Yeah, I think that this one is a miss.
It’s called ‘Buttery Jack’! That’s cute.
Wow! What’s that bun?
– It looks like a tortoise.
– It looks so cute!
The best part of this burger is how it looks, because it looks very fancy.
Smell it, though. It smells like garlic bread.
For this one… The patty is thicker than the bread.
– Oh yeah…
– But other than that, it tastes pretty much the same as the other two.
I don’t think I’d order this.
The meat is so dry.
– I’m not impressed by the patty at all.
– Yeah.
If you’re not picky about the kind of food you have…
or maybe if you’re not so picky about the taste of your food…
or if you’re not so picky about the price…
This was pretty cheap at about $5 a burger.
– The first one!
– Yeah, we started out so strong.
Five Guys!
– Definitely Five Guys.
– Yeah, Five Guys.
– It ruined us for others.
– It’s like… restaurant standard-ish.
Yeah, as compared to the rest.
Five Guys has definitely changed my perception of fast food.
I’d love Five Guys.
I’d love Five Guys in Singapore…
That would definitely be the cause of my weight gain.
If Five Guys really came to Singapore, I think it’d be a hit.
– Five Guys, please!
– Come to Singapore!
If Five Guys were to sponsor an athlete…
and brand their image as a fast food
company but with nutritious food on the menu…
I think it’s something people can buy into.
And it’d be a good look for the company.
– Five Guys!
– Come and invest.
On our sunny shores.
