Question one: Can I get everything
from a healthy, whole
food, plant-based diet?
The answer to that, in short, is no.
If you’re eating a healthy vegan diet
and a strict vegan diet,
you’re not getting any B12;
you must supplement.
You might have heard you can
get it in nutritional yeast.
That’s true,
but it’s because it’s added
in there as a supplement.
Vitamin D, you can get it from the sun,
but most people aren’t getting
enough exposure each day.
And omega-3, if you’re eating
chia seeds and flax seeds
and a ton of them each day,
you might be able to get enough omega-3,
but it’s very hard to
get the right amount.
So generally speaking, on
a healthy plant-based diet
you’re gonna get everything else
except B12, vitamin D, and omega-3.
That’s it.
